A strength built on dependence

The Saren enters an urban system of intake arches, lift chambers, pressure works, wheels, gates, settling basins, raised conduits, buried branches and old blue crystals.

Water officials can close a divider and isolate a failed branch. That practical knowledge keeps the city working, but it is not the same as complete knowledge of original manufacture.
