Capital of Ardena

Lysara

A walled river capital built in layers, where roads, bridges, water and elevation decide how people move—and who can reach power easily.

A city shaped by movement

Lysara has taken the River Saren into its urban life. Stone embankments, stairs, piers and freight ramps meet a river broad enough for loaded barges. Three bridges bind the city together, but they do not make every route equal: foot traffic, mixed traffic and freight place different pressures on each crossing.

From the west, travellers descend through the Western Gate and the busy lower wards. The principal road crosses the river and climbs toward administration, military authority and the upper city. Wealth and space become more visible uphill, though Lysara is never divided into perfectly separate worlds.

Work at river level

The western bank gathers stables, toll houses, warehouses, inns, vendors and heavy road traffic. The Market Quarter carries daily exchange—wine, food, cloth, metal and the constant negotiation of space. Farther south, the Commons compress work, housing and dependence on public water into denser streets.

Along the eastern riverfront, barges, porters and warehouse yards connect the Saren to the streets above. Workshops climb the Craft Slopes. Horses, clerks, guards and servants become more common as the roads rise toward the Military Terrace and Royal Heights.

Old stone, working water

The walls show their age openly: broad grey blocks, later repairs, changed mortar and towers built in more than one period. Lysara survives through maintenance rather than perfection.

Its water does the same. Public fountains and branches depend on inherited blue-crystal-supported systems, lift chambers, pressure works, wheels, gates and settling basins. Specialists can operate and isolate parts of the system, even when the oldest craft behind it is not fully understood.
