At the beginning of The Lysara Saga

Garran Vale

At the saga's beginning, Garran is a Rillford farmer, Rian's father and a man whose ordinary habits carry unusual precision around roads, danger and preparation.

The life he chose

Rillford knows Garran through labour that leaves visible results: a wall reset, a channel cleared, a horse steadied and a difficult task completed without ceremony. He teaches Rian to read ground and consequence as parts of the same lesson.

Where that precision began is not part of this beginning-stage profile. The absence is deliberate: Garran's earlier history belongs to the unfolding story, while the life he has built in Rillford is already true.

Protection through preparation

Garran does not treat confidence as evidence. He watches weight, footing, exits and what people will need if the first plan fails. His protection can feel like discipline because he rarely explains danger merely to make another person feel included.

That silence is one of the central tensions in his relationship with Rian. Love, instruction and trust do not always arrive in the same form.
